Miniature Mirliton e Essex in 15 mm.

The Sienese army (14th century) is trooping under the fortress of Tentennano in Rocca d'Orcia (Siena). Some knights from the noble Sienese families are escorting the “carroccio”. Mirliton and Essex miniatures in 15mm.

Mirliton's “carroccio”, originally from Florence, has been slightly modified to make it become Sienese, with a Dominican friar in place of the Franciscan proposed by Mirliton. In addition, I made with plasticard the 4 “pavese” shields of the crossbowmen, following those represented in the historical pageant of the “Palio di Siena”. The same banner of the crossbowmen is taken from the fresco "Victory of the Sienese in the battle of Val di Chiana" by Lippo Vanni (1363) in the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena.
